Introduction to Sweatlodge

The Sweatlodge is an ancient ritual which Medicine people have shared with Eva from around the world. In honouring these people we maintain their traditions with great respect and gratitude.

The structure of the Sweatlodge symbolizes the womb of our Mother, the Earth in which everything is available to us and where we are held and nourished in the best and most natural way possible.

Within the darkness and heat of the lodge, we sit humble and equal with our sisters and brothers, all children of our Earth Mother. We sit within her womb waiting to be born, remembering our true identities. In her womb we remember our connection with all living beings and when supportive to each other all life may live in harmony.

Working with the element of Fire, we heat especially selected stones till they glow red. The stones are referred to as our Grandmothers and Grandfathers and they represent the ancient wisdom of our Mother Earth and our Ancestors. These stones are passed into the lodge to a central pit, where water is poured onto them to release the heat and wisdom they hold. Sacred herbs are used to further purify, cleanse and empower us.

Through prayer and sacred songs we ask the Creator of the Great Mystery for support and give thanks for what we have already achieved.

The Four Elements are with us. Fire in the red glowing stones, Water we pour on the stones and in our sweat, Air that we breathe and the Earth on which we sit and which glows in the stones before us.

At the end of the ceremony we crawl out of our Mother’s womb as new borns. Complete, with greater understanding of ourselves and looking forward towards our futures.

This ceremony is one of the most powerful rituals for healing within the shamanic traditions. Cleansing on all levels of our being and recovering our connection to the Earth and all of Creation, becoming whole again.

In our western world so many people have lost their roots, this loss leads to our dis-ease manifesting as suffering, illness, greed and hatred. In this ritual of the sacred stones all is to be healed for the benefit of all sentient beings. The Healing happens on all levels, physical, emotional, mental, behavioural and spiritual.

This ceremony is not a religious ceremony. It is open to people of all beliefs and remains a gift and an offering to those who are open and willing to further their own personal journey and that of humanities.
